Broadbands
WHAT IS A BROADBAND?
Broadbands are local ad hoc groups that form around a particular local issue within the scope of Great Old Broads mission statement. They are Broads version of chapters and their focus is on protecting wilderness-quality public lands through education, advocacy, and volunteer projects. Whether part of a larger effort to secure Wilderness designations or watch-dogging an area to ensure it is not compromised by poorly managed grazing, off-road vehicles, recreation, or oil and gas or mineral development, Broads are adding our voices and energy to a broad array of issues across the country.
We also specialize in having fun! This means Broadbands get together just to socialize, hike, and enjoy the wilderness we work to protect. We believe that staying connected with other Broads and The Land in a fun way leads to stronger Broadbands and advocates. Even if there isn’t an urgent local issue at the moment, an occasional get-together with other Broads cements the ties and makes a “force to be reckoned with” when local Wilderness or wild lands need our help.
LOCAL BROADBANDS
Joining a Broadband in your area is a great way to meet other Broads and to get involved in local or regional issues that are important to you.

If there is no Broadband in your area and you’d like to start one, please contact us! We’d love to help you get a group going. Broadband Leader Position Description
Broads offers training to new leaders in the form of Broadband Leader Boot Camps. Participants are trained in grassroots organization, communication, lobbying skills, wilderness history, documentation of on-the-ground abuses, and Broads positions on issues such as grazing, off-road vehicles, and oil, gas, and mineral development. Boot Camps are typically held in the spring at locations that are within a half-day drive from Broads Headquarters in Durango, Colorado. Details of upcoming Boot Camps will be posted as soon as they are developed. (Look for a calendar entry in the right hand column to see if the next Boot Camp has been scheduled.)
You may apply for a spot at our next Boot Camp by filling out the Broadband Leader Boot Camp Application.
