Lauri Costello
Lauri (as you can see, a born tree-hugger!) grew up on the beach in Southern California where she bodysurfed, played beach volleyball, rode her bike, and took family camping trips. In college she had the opportunity to work at Sunrise High Sierra Camp in the backcountry of Yosemite National Park. It was then that she fell in love with the alpine environment and was introduced to backpacking. Lauri moved to Spokane, WA for her family medicine residency and stayed there for 25 years. Nature was her stress-management tool throughout her medical career, and she became a better skier, backpacker, and cyclist. Lauri left Spokane in 2010, taught medical school in the Caribbean, then moved to Durango in 2015. She was introduced to Broads when she was invited to Sally Jewel’s Townhall in Bluff, Utah, regarding the designation of Bears Ears—her seatmate on the bus ride home was former Broads Executive Director Shelley Silbert!
