Join us! We’re a stewardship-loving group that prefers to play outside in places like Painted Hand Trail at Canyon of the Ancients National Monument and Fish Creek Trail in the San Juan National Forest. We help protect the Dolores River Watershed in a time of climate change and drought. We build relationships with our Ute Mountain Ute neighbors to help with Mancos Canyon Restoration. We protest in solidarity with our White Mesa Ute neighbors to close White Mesa Mill, a major polluter. We say NO to uranium mining at Slick Rock Canyon within the boundaries of the proposed Dolores River National Conservation Area and transporting uranium ore to White Mesa Mill.

Projects

We work with other environmental organizations on projects like opposing Uinta Basin Railway, opposing grazing on Flodine and Yellow Jacket allotments in CANM, opposing logging at Salter Y, and other areas within the Dolores River Watershed. We help local groups oppose polluting industries like Ironwood and protect the Carpenter Natural Area. We are designing a campaign to educate people about the environmental harms of possible renewed uranium mining at Slick Rock Canyon. We work with a statewide multi-age group to help pass a Colorado Green Amendment in the Bill of Rights to ensure clean air, water, and healthy lands for future generations. Montana’s young people are using their Green Amendment to stop new polluting power plants. It would be a solution to many of our pollution problems.

Broadlights

Here are just a few of our 2023/2024 adventures:

  • Pat McClenny led us on USFS Fish Creek Trail adoption and stewardship.
  • Johnnie Godbey worked with CANM trails staff to create stewardship projects.
  • Shelby Robinson led some lucky Broads on a Dolores River rafting adventure.
  • LouAnn Burkett and Teri Helm led us on a snowshoeing and cross-country skiing adventure at Mesa Verde.
  • Sally Sharp, Broads’ Grassroots Regional Coordinator,  and Jennifer Singer attended an SRCA Retreat near Gateway and learned about how the proposed Dolores River National Conservation Area and the Dolores River Canyon National Monument would protect our endangered watershed.
  • Jennifer Singer was honored to help with Mancos Canyon Restoration by helping build PALS and wicker weirs to restore Mancos Creek.

Wishlist

  • We hope to create a strong enough coalition to convince the “Powers that Be” to deny uranium mining permits at Slick Rock Canyon- especially in areas within the proposed Dolores River NCA.
  • We hope to add more Broadtastic friends to our awesome group. Join us!
