You are invited to join the Central Oregon Bitterbrush Broads from Wednesday to Saturday, August 14-17,2024. to document potential grazing violations on the Ochoco National Forest.

There will be camping at Deep Creek Campground to assess several nearby livestock grazing allotments in the Ochoco National Forest. Deep Creek Campground is located among large ponderosa pine trees and across the Crooked River from some beautiful Western larch trees, the setting of this campground is serene. We will have hiking, fireside chats, potluck dinners and FUN with a purpose, Broads style. We will have a $20/person fee to cover campsites and incidentals.

We will be using a form and maps to assess potential grazing violations on several allotments on the Ochoco National Forest. This work will be done in small teams to collect information and photos of grazing violations and report them via email to the Forest Service. We will then develop and maintain records and USFS responses to our violation reports.

We will

1) Inform and use violation examples to urge the Ochoco Forest and Crooked River National Grassland to improve livestock management and recover streams and riparian areas and

2) Support Western Watersheds and Advocates for the West if litigation becomes our only option to make or improve public lands.

Options include tent and trailer camping. Please bring your breakfasts, lunches, and favorite beverage(s). There will be evening potluck dinners with themes. Also bring appropriate weather gear and hiking boots. It will be mid-August and can be HOT, so be sure and bring a bathing suit for swimming and chairs for relaxing.
