August 18-21 | The Elwha River a Decade after Dam Removal: Successes and Challenges for the Ecosystem Broadwalk

Date:

August 18-21, 2025

Location:

Olympic National Park, WA

Register Today!

The mighty Elwha River rises from the snowcapped peaks of the Olympic Mountains in Washington State, flowing nearly 45 miles north through old growth forests and glacial valleys into the Strait of Juan de Fuca. The Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe shares the river’s name, and has stewarded this region as their home since time immemorial. Our Broadwalk will explore the current successes from recent dam removals in this key ecosystem, and what challenges remain for its future restoration and health.

Your hosts for this Broadwalk are the Salish Sea and Polly Dyer (Seattle) Broadbands. We are looking forward to learning more and experiencing this magical part of our world, having fun, and taking action to save the Olympic Peninsula’s iconic wildlife and wild places!

Through expert speakers, guided hikes, paddling on Lake Crescent, and more, we will immerse ourselves in today’s issues about the Elwha’s recovery, and health of the greater Olympic Peninsula ecosystem: The state of native flora and fauna, climate change, the preservation of mature and old growth forests, and more. Come to learn, explore, play and serve!

Accommodations and meals: We will stay at the NatureBridge rustic lodge in Olympic National Park (ONP) on Lake Crescent for 4 days and 3 nights. NatureBridge provides all meals during our stay. Arrival will be on Monday, August 18, 2025 in the afternoon, check-in time TBD. Departure will be on Thursday, August 21, 2025, in the morning, check-out time TBD.

Note: Camping on NatureBridge premises is not permitted due to ONP rules.  If you want to camp, you will need to arrange camping on your own at a campground elsewhere, at your own expense. Please do not bring pets!  NatureBridge prohibits them in its facilities, and ONP prohibits them on most trails.
