NEPA (National Environmental Policy Act) is one of our bedrock environmental laws! We depend on it for participating in all significant federal agency project decisions: wilderness, monuments, national parks, national forests, Bureau of Land Management (BLM) sites, ocean projects and plans, timber cutting, oil, gas and mining exploration, transmission lines, roads, and grazing. Recently though, the White House has eliminated the national Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ) NEPA regulations, and told all federal agencies to revise their NEPA regulations according to the administration’s goals.

Only Congress can change NEPA, and Congress has minimal knowledge about this profound but simple law. However, they are being told by extraction industry lobbyists that environmental groups are using it to delay the transition to clean energy.
