Activity Type: Advocacy (rallies, lobbying, meeting decision makers, letters/calls/emails)
Short Description of Activity
Jenny and Tom hiked August 1 down to the culvert under Highway 69 where ADOT plan on widening the road. EMAC is working with ADOT, City of Prescott, Yavapai County CYMPO, and AZ Fish and Game in planning a solution to this important wildlife corridor. The existing culvert is 50 feet of dirt below the highway grade. It is long, narrow and dark – wildlife is afraid of it. The culvert needs to be replaced with a new culvert – wider and higher – but it will be 35 feet longer. EMAC meeting was held this date August 5.
Reflection/Evaluation
Our inspection revealed water, calcium leaching from cement, water leading in ceiling, plants growing at the south entrance encroaching into the culvert, and more. 19 at meeting – bottom line it will be expensive to put in new culvert (or highway bridge(s) but necessary as this is important wildlife corridor and also part of the Prescott Circle trail and later, the planned Sun Corridor Trail. EMAC is exploring funding possibilities to be reported at September meeting. ADOT road plans are in final stages – time is of the essence.
