Short Description of Activity
Three months of correspondence with partner organizations, elected officials, members, federal agencies, CDOT and business owners. Research re: existing uses and avalanche mitigation on Hayden Mountain polygon. Composed draft language re: working draft of GMUG plan for Ouray BOCC and Town of Ridgway. Perused the GMUG Reading Room for comments.
Reflection/Evaluation
Research re: Hayden revealed significant existing use by Telluride Helitrax and ongoing avalanche mitigation for highway 550 and recreation so that Hayden Mountain does not qualify as wilderness. Intend to amend Community Conservation Proposal to request Special Management Area instead. Frustrating that BOCC used none of the language I offered in the draft the BOCC requested I write. They did not endorse the Community Conservation Proposal in their letter in keeping with the support the commissioners expressed at the BOCC meeting. Still have not been able to obtain copy of final Ridgway comments re: working draft though council is overtly supportive of Community Conservation Proposal.
