Short Description of Activity
This activity was organized and offered mainly by 350.org (the Albuquerque, NM branch) along with the Counselor Chapter of the Navajo Nation through Daniel Tso to bring an awareness of the damage to the landscape and impacts on families and neighbors who share the Chaco landscape currently with oil and gas invasive fracking technologies on Bureau of Land Maxnagement and Navajo Nation checkerboard leased land. By the end of a long day driving around the Chaco landscape, we had a better understanding of the powerful impact of oil and gas on this local community.
Reflection/Evaluation
Our goal was self education and our cadre of interested parties traveling together from Albuquerque all felt awakened to the trials and tribulations the community of Counselor is suffering directly with behavioral and physical health problems, broken families, some of whom have sold out to oil and gas developments. I think we will all be following up on this issue in the future. I will be continuing to follow up with the Counselor Chapter Chaco Coalition and with Maya Van Rossen on a NM Green Amendment.
