Short Description of Activity

NSJ Broads sponsored a hike along the Bear Creek National Recreation Trail to Grizzly Mine to show participants the wilderness characteristics of this landscape which the coalition (to which NSJBB belongs) has proposed as an addition to the Uncompahgre Wilderness in the Community Conservation Proposal submitted to the GMUG Forest Planning Team. Broads has also recommended that Bear Creek be deemed eligible for Wild and Scenic River designation in the Forest Plan.

Reflection/Evaluation

Great hike. Glorious day. Accomplished our goal of educating participants re: the wilderness values of this landscape AND generating comment letters to encourage its protection and recommendation as addition to the Uncompahgre Wilderness and as Wild & Scenic River eligible. We had fun, too!!
