Short Description of Activity
In a rare opportunity, Robyn was able to accompany Ouray District Ranger Dana Gardunio and GMUG Forest Supervisor Chad Stewart on a two hour tour along the Highway 550 corridor from Ridgway to Ironton with the goal of pointing out the landscapes Broads and our GMUG conservation coalition consider worthy of recommended designation in the forest plan revision. These 5 landscapes: Whitehouse Addition to Mt Sneffels Wilderness, Bear Creek and Baldy additions to Uncompahgre Wilderness, Hayden Mountain & Abram/Brown Mtns are all included in the Community Conservation Proposal submitted to the GMUG.
Reflection/Evaluation
Though we had offered USFS personnel an Eco-flight tour over the landscapes as well as various hikes on trails into these landscapes mentioned in the description above, we had to settle for an auto tour (which of course does not give the full picture of the magnificence and wilderness character of these areas. Nevertheless, we highlighted the landscapes, reviewed maps, justified our proposed recommendations and had time for numerous questions while driving. See uploaded notes.
