Short Description of Activity
Protect our Waters was an evening sponsored by KS Wild and Rogue Riverkeeper. We gathered to learn about The Oregon Recreation Enhancement act. This event was held at The Haul, in Grants Pass Oregon. Homeland of the Takelma Tribe and also the Tolowa dee ni’.
Oregon Senators Wyden and Merkley introduced the Oregon Recreational Enhancement (ORE) Act in May 2019 to protect the rivers that are at the heart of Oregon’s recreation-based tourism economy: the Rogue, Illinois, and Smith Rivers. KS Wild is working with local business owners and community members to raise awareness and garner support for this important bill that will help complete protections for the lower Rogue, Smith, and Illinois rivers now and for future generations.
Reflection/Evaluation
The goal was to educate people about the ORE Act and to promote recreation tourism over strip mining and logging! About 40 postcards were signed and are now headed to Congressman Peter Defazio’s office!
