Key Issue: Livestock Grazing Management
Activity Type: Advocacy (rallies, lobbying, meeting decision makers, letters/calls/emails)
Landscape/area: BLM CO – Gunnison Field Office
Measurable Outcomes
Outcome 1: Advocacy calls/emails/letters (3 letters to BLM)
Outcome 2: Advocacy calls/emails/letters (2 supplemental letters to BLM)
Short Description of Activity
NSJBB and two individual members submitted comments on the DEIS re: the BLM Gunnison Field Office’s domestic sheep grazing permit renewals in Ouray County (plus two other counties.) Three letters were submitted by the August 11 deadline and two supplemental comments were submitted following further research that motivated NSJBB and Robyn to change their position from “no overlap in summer or winter range” to “NO grazing” in the habitat of a vulnerable Tier 1 herd of Bighorn sheep.
Reflection/Evaluation
Excellent learning opportunity to urge the action from the agency that you really want rather than the one you think is feasible given reality!!! See attached letters.
