Short Description of Activity
This workshop was put on by a sister Broad (Emma Dugan) who has made it part of her retirement work to do all she can to address racism. We learned how to identify different types of racism (personal, cultural and institutional), the history of racial oppression in America, how our own early learning and socialization may have affected our ideas about racism, the cost of racism to white people and basic tactics to use to make a difference. We also developed a personal action plan of what more we can do to learn about this issue and actions we can take.
Reflection/Evaluation
The goal was to better understand racism and how it permeates our society, to build awareness and bring tools to the Broads to break down any barriers to participation of people of color.
