Short Description of Activity
I participated in an action at the Governor’s office in Salem. Oregon. We did a sit in and refused to leave until Gov. Brown agreed to ban the Jordan Cove pipeline project. She refused. 21 people including myself were arrested. We were handcuffed, taken to jail, booked and fingerprinted. We were in custody from 9:00 PM 11/21 until 4:30 AM 11/22. We were released on our own recognizance.
Reflection/Evaluation
The goal of this action was to get attention from the media about this issue and to ask the Governor to take a stand against this environmental disaster. I believe we were successful in getting widespread media coverage. Just a few days after the rally, Congressman Peter DeFazio came out against the pipeline. I believe we also put pressure on Governor Brown.
