Short Description of Activity
I am on the SE Portland/Westmoreland Christmas Bird Count Team, and we surveyed this past Saturday, January 4. I spent 10 hours traveling/birding and our team of 8 enthusiastic birders saw a total of 33 species and 1,966 birds! Highlights of good birds we saw were: Green Heron, 5 Bald Eagles, American Kestrel, Merlin, Peregrine Falcon, 8 Downy Woodpeckers, Red-breasted Sapsucker, 12 White-breasted Nuthatches, 7 Brown Creepers and a Barred Owl being mobbed by about 25 crows right next to I-84!
A really fun day!
Reflection/Evaluation
The goal of the activity was to count species of birds and report the data back to Audubon in order to monitor numbers of bird species. Fun event! We met our goal and plan to do it again next year!
