Short Description of Activity
9 Broads attended the Salmon/Orca Task force meeting at Washington State University in Vancouver, Wa. A panel of 8 people representing fishermen, outfitters, orca scientist, farmer, barge owner, tribal leader, BPA employee, and environmentalist each described the impact of the breaching of the dams on the LSR.
Reflection/Evaluation
The goal of the activity was to better understand the other stakeholders in the breaching of the dams. I didn’t realize how much money it will cost the federal govt to replace the irrigations systems for the farmers as well as improve the rail lines and highways for train and truck transport. This is not just about dam breaching, but it is a complex issue and will impact the economy of Eastern Washington as well.
