Report: ADVOCACY by Felice Kelly-Portland area Broadactivists
• Related to Jordan Cove-Coos Bay dredging city amendment status; NOAA bio opinion on water quality impacts was not promising as a tool for advocacy; Next Steps: State Lands Report, FERC action on EIS, DEQ permitting, Dept. of Land Conservation & Development report action to come.
• Offered letters to sign re: Divestment Action to Chase Bank President, as primary underwriter for Jordan Cove Pipeline.
• Next Broadactivist Meeting:
o Portland Group: 1.29.2010 at Jane Heisler’s-focus on Forest Water Protection Act Ballot Inititative sponsored by Oregon Wild

• Environmental Lobby Day, Washington State 1-31-2020 –Rally planned. Contact Susan https://wecprotects.org/events/environmental-lobby-day/)
• Mt. St. Helens area: Army Corp of Engineers proposal for a road through the Pumice Plain, set-aside research area. Public comments have now passed. Will negatively impact research, Truman Trail area, several waterways. Watch for opportunities to respond.
• Ascot Mine and the Green River mineral exploration update: In litigation, no news.
• Wild & Scenic Rivers Campaign- Opportunity to submit names to Ron Wyden for inclusion is now. (https://oregonwild.org/about/blog/how-nominate-wild-scenic-river)

9 Broads attended the Stake Holders Meeting on Jan. 9. Questionnaires and comments due Jan 23.
-Rally for Salmon in Olympia Jan. 23 11am – 1pm. Laurie will be driving. She has room for one more passenger. Contact Laurie for details.

• Portland Book Group by Ginny Peckinpaugh: Braiding Sweetgrass, Robin Wall Kimmerer. First session is 1.20.2020 and is full.
• Clark County Book Group by Linda Buckley: Stronghold:One Man’s Quest to Save the World’s Wild Salmon, Tucker Malarkey. First session is 2.3.2020. Contact Linda.
• Climate Education & Stewardship Program Grant: Judy Todd: Reported on opportunity to learn about the work being developed by Rachel Green, Program Director, and determine involvement opportunities. Sign up tonight to receive initial information (powerpoint and pdf from Rachel) and joining an informational call in next week. A Google CES Group will be set up for future communications.
• “Before We Were White” : Judy- An online training on white privilege and colonialization offered via www.whiteawake,org. Begins 1.26.2020. See website for free materials or to sign up for webinar.

• Mark O. Hatfield Stewardship Project TBD
• Tree Planting at Steigerwald Wildlife Refuge (Feb. 29, March 21) in partnership with Lower Estuary Partnership. Registration will be posted on Stewardship Google group when it opens up. You must sign up and register for this fun, free event.
• Leave No Trace (LNT) This is an excellent opportunity to learn the basics on this free one-hour online course in February. Laurie will post link when it opens. We may also be able to offer a more extensive one day event with TreeSong in April with a trainer from LNT. If you are planning on helping monitor solitude this season with the Forest Service, please be sure to register for one of these LNT courses if you have never received the training.

• Hikes/Snowshoe Trips: Barb Fox-Kilgore: January 20-June Lake snowshoe/hike; Meet at 8:00 am Woodland Park and Ride. Contact Barb for more details. Nonmembers pay $3.
• Snowshoe White River in Mt Hood Feb 17. For more details contact Barb. Details will be posted on hiking google group.

• Broadwalks: Linda Buckley: National opportunities now open for registration on the GOBW website for St. George Maine in June and Sequim Washington in August. Spots fill fast! https://www.greatoldbroads.org/national-events/

Next General Meeting: Tuesday February 18, 2020 at Kennedy School Community Room, 5736 NE 33rd Ave, Portland, OR 97211. Doors Open at 6PM, Meeting starts at 6:30. Personal food can be brought in, except for alcohol, or purchased on site.
