Short Description of Activity

Great meeting with Ed Bowles who talked very openly about issues related to LSRDs breaching, Central WA politics, BPA politics, etc. Ed told us he believes that change will come through action by the Govs. of OR, WA, ID & MT leading a multi-state push for dam breach. He told us that he’s been aware of, and appreciate of the Broads dedicated work on this issue. He also told us that OR has joined WA in adopting the 125% Total Dissolved Gas standard which enables dam operators to spill more water over the dams which helps move fish faster downstream.

Reflection/Evaluation

We left the meeting very encouraged that Ed understood the politics and science of LSRDs breaching, and encourage the Broads to continue to pressure governors from the four states as well as US Senators from WA However he told us that the energy storage issue needs to be solved before Bonneville Power will be forced to remove dams. In the meantime he felt that more spill and habitat improvements will sustain fish populations until the dams can be removed..
