Short Description of Activity

NSJBB assisted Working Circle and Defenders of Wildlife in publicizing their workshop series in February focused on Ranching with Predators on the Landscape. I sent invitations to CPW Commissioners and regional staff, USFS and BLM staff, Backcountry Hunters and Anglers, BB leaders, ranchers and livestock processing businesses and conservation coalition partners.

Reflection/Evaluation

We engaged in part because of the wolf reintroduction efforts and to build our relationships with the agriculture community as well as federal and state agency personnel. Mostly, however, we want our local ranchers to understand the options available to them as livestock producers given the inevitable presence of large predators – be they mountain lions and bears that are already here or wolves who will either recolonize or be introduced at some future time. The event went very well with at least 4 ranchers from Ouray County (our target region,) two USFS range conservation staff and multiple Broads and Bros. As always, I hoped for greater participation from the ranching community and CPW and federal agency personnel, but it was a start. NSJBB hopes to continue our relationship with Working Circle in hopes of establishing an ongoing connection with ranchers in the region. We cannot verify, but we also hope that some of our outreach in other regions increased participation
