Short Description of Activity
Collaborative Landscape restoration – Shared Stewardship and cross boundary forest and fire restoration.
Purpose – Share successes and lessons learned in collaborative restoration project. Develop further actionable strategies for emerging CFLRP programs. The format was to have very short expert presentations and then much longer breakout workshops with discussions with experts from many places and many fields. It was useful to have facilitators that made sure everyone had an opportunity to contribute.
Reflection/Evaluation
Met many people active in forestry, research, and collaborative projects; there were over 150 attendees from all different public lands agencies and NGO’s. Made new connections and revisited other acquaintances from past field trips, meetings, and projects.I wish the federal funding wasn’t so iffy; these are professionals who understand that the purpose of restoration is not output; it is outcomes. I even met the head of the USFS – Vicki Christianson…Made some connections to get UNM architecture and engineering students involved in new and innovative uses for sustainable forest products.
