Short Description of Activity

Meeting with 4 of our local NM representatives and 1 senator to discuss an update on bills that were presented during our 30-day legislative session – what was proposed and what failed to get through and reasons why.

Reflection/Evaluation

Two of us made statements on various bills. I asked Senator Sedillo-Lopez, of whom I am a constituent, to explain what happened to the Community Solar bill, why it failed to move through both houses and how it can succeed next year. Another member asked about tax credits for electric vehicles. Both pieces of legislation failed to pass this year. Her response to me was that there was not enough time in the 30-day session and that next year the Community Solar bill would be reintroduced with improved language, to avoid Republican blockage. I told her I was concerned because my family uses solar energy on our rooftop and I think it should be available to all of our community in an affordable way and that I knew of rooftop solar being used around the world even in 3rd-world countries.
