Short Description of Activity
I had the opportunity to speak with Nancy Randolph, a new leader from Maine, who is helping to co-lead a Broadband with Theo. Nancy is an experienced journalist and has strengths in the area of technology. She interviewed me about our advocacy issues and stewardship activities that Cascade Volcanoes have been involved in. She appeared super passionate and excited about her new leadership role.
I also had the super opportunity to chat with Terry Karro. Terry is starting a brand new Broadband in Central Washington in the Twisp/Winthop area. She also appeared to be an excellent potential leader with experience as an attorney in the valley for 35 years. She is trying to build her membership at this time and is also seeking a co-leader. She interviewed me about our Washington campaigns as well as our stewardship activities. I hope to meet her at the upcoming Broadwalk in August.
Sara Bransom, a new leader in Grand Lake, Co., also contacted me about doing solitude monitoring with the forest service. She mentioned that she had several Broads who were avid hikers and who would enjoy doing this type of work. She also seemed very willing and eager to take on a stewardship project of this type.
Reflection/Evaluation
The goal of the activity was to familiarize new BB leaders with more experienced leaders and get them writing activity reports right away. I also learned from them, and Nancy Randolph reported that local banks have grant opportunities available which I should check out for getting money for stewardship projects in the future. I thought it was a great way to get new leaders engaged with other leaders and also getting them started writing activity reports. I do wish that this would have been a requirement for our newer broadband leaders on our leadership team.
