Short Description of Activity
Call to learn what works well in the Portland Volcanos Broadband, what kind of activities they engage in, and how often. Also asked for advice on how they are structured to support both Oregon and Washington issues, how they handle things that don’t go well and key advice she might have for a new Broadband leader.
Reflection/Evaluation
Their Broadband is much larger than Granite Broads with 140+ on list, 50 actively participating. However, their monthly meetings are about the same as our quarterly meetings–20 attendees. They use a Leadership Team model with a small group of women who meet monthly to divide up the work based on their passions and current time availability. They have many smaller group meetings, including separate WA and OR advocacy groups, book groups, etc. because they find members don’t want to drive very far for joint monthly meetings. The monthly meetings include reports from all of these groups. Her key advice for a new Broadband leader was to focus first on just building relationships “Come and play with us” not “Come and take on this work.” Follow up: share structure and comments with Linda Graham.
