Short Description of Activity

As part of the Don’t Dam the Salmon program; we submitted “Damned to Extinction” to be shown at the EcoFilm Festival. We were responsible for organizing a follow-up panel that included an endowed professor at OSU who works on Southern resident orcas like those featured in the film, a hydrologist (and Great Old Bro) who works for the US Forest Service, a fish biologist (also a Great Old Bro) and a high school-aged activist. Additionally we invited and were successful in having the film writer and production director of the movie as a panelist. We were able to set up a table and showcase Great Old Broads.

Reflection/Evaluation

The event was a huge success. The sponsors of the Film Festival told us that we assembled the best panel that they’ve ever had in 20 years of the Festival. The tabling was an excellent opportunity to spread the word about GOB and our local chapter. And mostly, the film inspired people to be more interested in and to explore ways to become more active to promote the importance of removing the Snake River Dams.

Prior to the film showing, the panelists and our leadership team met for dinner. Another great opportunity for networking and learning about the issues.

We exceeded our expectations for the number of participants.
