Short Description of Activity
We had a Broadactivist meeting to cover writing comments about two different current management decisions. The first half was about the proposed changes to the Eastside Screens that restrict logging of large (>21in DBH) trees in Eastern OR, WA, and ID. The FS wants to get rid of this rule and replace it with guidance, and is only doing an Environmental Assessment, not a full EIS, on the decision. We had Paula Hood from the Blue Mountains Biodiversity Project talk about their objections to the proposed change and how to submit comments.
In the second half we talked about the proposed Kalama Methanol Plant, and how to submit comments on the air quality and climate effects. Susan Saul led this part of the discussion because she had recently drafted comments for a WA Audubon Chapter.
I think most attendees will submit comments on both issues, but I just put down 10 comments as a conservative estimate.
Reflection/Evaluation
The meeting seemed useful for people. We need to send up a follow-up email to get the comments out!
