Short Description of Activity
Discussion with an experienced leader to learn about their activities, resources, issues and lessons learned.
Goal was to apply their experiences to my Broadband, and to connect as leaders and members, giving each other information, support and comradery.
Reflection/Evaluation
The goal to connect, learn and support each other was very much met. She told me about several ways to encourage participation of members, including book clubs and giving personal calls. She suggested that, if members aren’t sure what to do, they could divide into these groups; advocacy, stewardship, education, legislature, according to people’s interests. She described a particular event, trail cleaning, that morphed into a whole community event when it was discovered that the kiosks and benches needed replacing. Artists, the Forest Service and members of the community all came together to complete the work. It shows how things can fall into place when you do good things and contact the right people.
