Short Description of Activity
Solitude Monitoring Cedar Swamp and North Lake areas
Reflection/Evaluation
We did North Lake in the morning and Cedar Swamp in the afternoon. We saw no one on North Lake trails and 4 people and 2 dogs on Cedar Swamp, although we didn’t get all the way down to where it meets Herman Creek trail so we didn’t monitor any campsites except the top one by the cabin which was vacant. A little research revealed that the cabin was a WWII signal site (perhaps for random Japanese aircraft). We bailed on doing Defiance on Sunday due to rain, fog, and wind. We were disappointed and were looking forward to another hike but it would have been very unpleasant up there and it’s unlikely we would have seen many people there.
