Short Description of Activity
Kevin Hurrell, Supervisory Environmental Coordinator PNF invited Broads and Sierra Club Yavapai Group to a ZOOM meeting to review changes in NEPA. Kevin had done his homework and cited many issues we have commented on. He put up NEPA showing what has been removed and/or added. NEPA has been shortened which is good for them but we have lost most of our ability to comment and object. The new NEPA needs to be reversed by the new Administration. Broads and Sierra Club said yes to participating in pre-scoping stages of the NEPA process in the future. Already, Kevin has included us in a trail/trailhead project out of the Verde Valley.
Reflection/Evaluation
Kevin is very nice, but as it goes with all meetings with PNF, they play nice until we won’t sign off on our objections. I feel they are primarily condescending. Exception is Jason Williams – Wilderness Trails Coordinator – known him longer because was PNF volunteer before finding Broads. ZOOM had some good
points: Kevin told us reason Riverbend Mine decision was withdrawn Also we talked about Jack’s Project and find we have common goals on this issue – monitoring and only allowing the gold miners to operate one or even a few of the 90 plus claims at one time, reclaiming each as it goes along, etc.
