Reflection/Evaluation
Jason filled us in on some of the major things legislatively going on in Salem and what he is supporting. Phil did same as far as how it relates to the County. Both are concerned about climate change among many other things, like education, housing and land use policies as they relate to fires. Jason supports 100% Clean energy by 2040, he is also looking at what legislatively is being discussed around healthier forests, prescribed burning and logging (he may need to have more of a discussion with us). Phil has an extensive background in public resources. He tried to get fellow commissioners to look at doing a carbon analysis about what is the capacity on our local landscape – no support from others. He would like to see the state instead of the county establish land use guidelines as far as where people can and cannot build homes. His concerns is that in the local urban growth area there are huge empty areas right now that eventually will be developed but they are not in the best area. Rather than the county come up with guidelines or codes, he would like to see a statewide mandate on these issues.
