Relational Meetings call with Su Libby.

Reflection/Evaluation

Su Libby (Wisconsin) and I practiced the Relational Meetings scenarios and chatted freely for half an hour on March 11, 2021. Su observed that the success of Sally’s role-model Relational Meeting was the fact that Sally was able to converse in spanish – that was the key to finding an area of commonality and building trust.  A productive discussion followed our role playing the new Roaring River Broadband Leader and incumbent Secretary, and the Broadband Leader meeting an experienced Broad new to the area. I observed that anyone expressing interest is seeking community, so our role is to encourage them to consider that our Broadband is a welcoming community. Su agreed that there’s a lot of diplomacy and psychology involved, and that she feels a natural affinity with the Broads – at age 72 she only regrets not having gotten involved earlier! I shared that although Audubon does do good conservation work, my sense is that the Broads are really focused on people, and that’s why I’m hopeful that the Cache Valley Broadband will bring together a group of people who want to meet regularly for grassroots organizing with an element of humor and fun! As Great Old Broads Associate Director Lauren Berutich emphasized, there’s a cycle of “Engage, Activate, Evaluate, Again!”, and it is essential to “Celebrate!” even the smallest accomplishments.
