Short Description of Activity
A virtual presentation and discussion on the topic of Grizzly Bear recovery in the Rocky Mountain West. The Grizzly Bear has been listed as a threatened species since 1975, and in recent years serval an efforts to de-list the species in 2007 and 2017 have been halted by legal challenges to the de-listing rules. At issue is whether the bears exists in sufficient numbers, methods used to count populations, effects of climate change on food sources, and whether isolated populations of bears can remain viable after de-listing.
Reflection/Evaluation
The presentation was well attended and many good questions were asked of the presenter. The objective of education on Grizzly Bear recovery and inspiring greater interest in this cause was met. Rob has published a book entitled “The Grizzly in the Driveway”, which he has made available at a significant discount. Participants desiring to learn more will find much to learn from reading this book, and I suspect many will want to read it.
