Short Description of Activity
My third time working with Friends of the AZ Joshua Tree Forest in the forest near Meadview, AZ. Continuing monitoring of a 100 x 100 plot in the forest – recording height, health, looking for new trees, counting terminal buds, etc. The forest is BLM. Several years ago Jenny and Kathy Ann helped them lay out the Nature Trail at Pearce Ferry Road and Diamond Bar Road.
Reflection/Evaluation
I counted the terminal buds on 18 trees followed by a visit with Pam (their leader) and Chuck; and lunch with Sharon Baur and her husband Marvin. Sharon is a long-time environmentalist and promises to join Broads some day. We discussed many issues. She tells me they are beginning talks with BLM to eventually have the forest declared a National Monument. Local ranchers are one of the critical issues. Cattle graze in the forest.
