Short Description of Activity

Discussion on chapter of Robin Wall Kimmerer’s Braiding Sweetgrass titled “A Mother’s Work” (pp82-97). Presentation by Lake & Shoreland Ecologist, Lindsay Miller (from the Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation), who joined us to to share slides and discussion on the balance of working with Mother Nature to keep ponds healthy and to enjoy, explore and develop near them responsibly. She discussed allowing lakes to change naturally, as they will, but maintaining a good forest cover as a filter for the water.
We agreed to keep in touch for future stewardship opportunities.

Reflection/Evaluation

This was a great discussion of the book and how it relates to our local areas, our sense of motherhood and taking care of each other and the planet. Our monthly presentations have been very inspiring and helped our new collaboration get to know and learn from each other.
