Key Issue: Climate Change
Activity Type: Stewardship (monitoring, sampling, planting, etc.)
Key Partners: Chehalis River Basin Land Trust
Measurable Outcomes
Outcome 1: trees monitored (81 trees)
Short Description of Activity
Laurie stopped by the Chehalis Land Trust Discovery Trail on the way back from the Broadwalk to see how many trees survived the heat wave.
Reflection/Evaluation
I noted 75% survivability for the Big Leaf Maple (22/29), 39% survivability for the Red Alder (14/36), and 62% survived (10/16) for the Doug Firs. The overall survival rate for all of the species was 57% (46/81). I only took a sample of the trees by photographing them as I walked around so this is only a small sample. The location of the trees had alot to do with their survival rate; the ones getting shade from larger trees survived the most.
