Short Description of Activity
This field trip was set up to show the RGVBB what a totally off-grid educational facility can be, and to pay homage to the role that one of the original Broads, Vera Snyder, played in the establishment and design of the original facility in the 1960s. Vera also identified several archeological sites in the area. We had planned to do a hike on the adjacent trails into the wilderness to identify invasive and medicinal plants, but it was over 100 degrees by the time we had planned to hike, so we had to cancel that part of the meeting.
Reflection/Evaluation
The goal was to finally meet with the RGVBB group in person in a beautiful place; this was accomplished, and actually there were several other members of the Sandia Collaborative who also came. It was a positive day, despite the heat.
I wish I had taken some photos but it was just too hot! However the history of the center does discuss Vera Snyder’s role if the national office would like me to send it on. The file is too big to attach here…
