Landscape/area: BLM CO – Uncompahgre Field Office

Outcome 1: Advocacy actions (1 comments)
Short Description of Activity
BLM proposed action and draft alternatives for 2 grazing allotment permits in area of threatened Gunnison sage-grouse. Broads worked with Black Canyon Audubon Society to submit comments asking BLM to clarify/respond to some questions and concerns. The grazing, especially trailing of cattle through the area during nesting and brooding season could endanger the sage-grouse, and the land health of sagebrush, grasses and forbs is not not high in this area.
Reflection/Evaluation
Goal was to present areas BLM needs to address. It was nice working with some members of Black Canyon Audubon Society (BCAS) who are familiar with the bird biology and workings of the BLM. Since I am member of both Broad and the BCAS, it made sense to me, and Leadership Team of Broads and Board of BCAS, to submit comments jointly.
