Short Description of Activity
NSJBB was asked by GPLI organizers to solicit letters of support from Ridgway and Ouray County to Senator Bennet for three landscapes in Gunnison County included in GPLI that border Ouray County and are frequently accessed via Ouray County roads. Turret Ridge, Little Cimarron & Failes Creek/Soldier Creek are being proposed by GPLI as additions to the Uncompahgre Wilderness. Broads supports this action and in fact these landscapes are proposed as recommended wilderness in the Community Conservation Proposal to the GMUG Forest Plan revision.
Reflection/Evaluation
Obtained letters from both Ridgway and Ouray County readily. Learned how BOCCs in general and certainly Ouray BOCC do not like to comment on lands outside their jurisdiction without the explicit consent of the collaborating county – reflected in the Ouray BOCC letter.
