Mathieu was able to follow up and attend a COTA meeting regarding the development of the Lemon Gulch bike trails.
Reflection/Evaluation
Between one individual of the Forest service and the COTA group they are proposing development of 50 miles of trail in the Lemon Gulch area. Lots of lies happened in this meeting, such as Oregon Wild has been involved, which they have not and are not for this development. We had previously talked with some locals who are absolutely opposed to this project….and the meeting seemed to downplay locals concerns. A major concern is that there would be shuttle service to get bikers to the top (much like the Paulina Plunge) with downhill biking…which means a lot of traffic. The Forest Service person presented this area as a way to eliminate some of the traffic in the Ochoco’s and also said there is minimal concerns for wildlife and habitat. We will continue to be involved in this project as it is really a bad idea. It promotes taking the issue that is happening in the Cascades and spreading it to another area. Earlier in the summer we had a meeting with a local family regarding their concerns for this project.
