Short Description of Activity
The Aldos Broadband Riparian Monitoring Team conducted two monitoring field trips in October. On October 5, two members surveyed the Gila Bird Area, and discovered that the open gate which had previously allowed trespass cattle into the river was no longer padlocked (the padlock had been installed as a result of earlier GOB reports). Instead, the gate was closed with a loose wire. Pictures were taken and a report was made. On October 25, three team members monitored the East Fork of the Gila river, upstream a little over 3 miles from Lyons Lodge to the point where Black Canyon Creek flows in. No cattle or fresh sign was found.
One team member met with USFS personnel to learn how to use the Inreach that the FS is lending us, as well as a review of radio procedures. Team members then met to review this knowledge together, discuss criteria and procedures for possible new team members, and potential fall monitoring activities.
Reflection/Evaluation
Aldos Broadband continues to monitor areas that were a part of the lawsuit settlement with the Center for Biological Diversity and the FS.
