Landscape/area: Gila National Forest (2658321 acres)
Measurable Outcomes
Outcome 1: Trail/land monitored (3 surveys)
Outcome 2: Hiked (10 miles)
Short Description of Activity
We monitored Stone Creek near the NM / AZ border on Feb. 10, and a section of the San Francisco River near Cienega Canyon north of Reserve on Feb. 25. In addition, one of our team members monitored several enclosure areas in the Quemado District. Some of us met with GNF staff to work out glitches with our survey app, etc.
Reflection/Evaluation
Some recent cattle sign was found and reported off the Cosmic Campground area along the San Francisco River. No cattle were actually observed in the exclusion areas we monitored this month. One of our team members met with the new Quemado District Ranger to gain information on what areas he would like to see monitored. Such meetings help with our collaboration. We requested new paper maps showing allotments and pastures more clearly.
