Short Description of Activity

Drove down to Organ Mountains Desert Peaks NM outside of Las Cruces to meet, visit and hike with GOBW members who are assigned to Aldo’s Silver City Broadband. Hiked the Dripping Springs Trail. (Followed up with Valentine treats at the trail head.) Seven GOBW members attended. (We didn’t want a big group for such a hike, so this only involved some of our steering committee members and the Las Cruces members.)

Reflection/Evaluation

One of the main goals was to meet and visit while hiking with the GOBW / Aldo’s Broadband members residing near Las Cruces, a two hour drive from Silver City. Our steering committee had not met most of these folks before. The goal was met while hiking in a beautiful public lands setting, in that all of the Las Cruces members who could attend joined us that day. (Two were not able to, given they became a grandmother and great – grandmother that day!) There was a range of hiking abilities, which is common on such a hike, and that did impact being able to visit to the extent some wished with all participants. However the main goal was to make the contact and meet the members, with the hopes that this will lead to more contact and activities in the future. We are hoping that this initial event might lead to increased participation in our area, advocacy, and participation in “local” endeavors.
