Reflection/Evaluation

Two members of the Northern San Juan Broads joined GJ Broadband members for hike led by Lisa Eckert (formerly worked as a ranger and manager at CNM)
Weaving their way into Monument Canyon, eight Broads from two Broadbands hiked the five-mile length of this iconic canyon including the “erosional monoliths” – the reason Colorado National Monument was proclaimed on May 24, 1911 by President Taft.

The sudden uplift of these canyons and mesas is the northern welcome mat to the entire Colorado Plateau; these same rock layers are buried beneath the Grand Valley. Exploring the rock, imagining the eccentricity of advocate John Otto, being surprised by two bands of desert bighorn sheep (a total of 18 sheep observed), and getting to know each other, it was a magical day in the outdoors.
