Reflection/Evaluation
This was my 3rd time viewing this film and each time I become aware of something new. The most profound and disturbing statement was made by the lawyer who reported that the splitting up of families and placing one culture with another culture fell under the definition of genocide. Horribly our country continues that practice. What is amazing is the sense of unity of community, family, the gathering of different tribes to come together for a common cause and how that gives strength, passion, and focus towards positive change. Something we all could learn from.
This second group strayed from talking about the Native perspective, and personally I felt that a couple of the people may have been uncomfortable with the subject. Most remembered the incidents historically. There was some talk that as a nation we are cruel and haven’t learned from past events and the influences of corporate greed.
All agreed that they enjoyed the evening and would be willing to do again,
