Short Description of Activity
CRF presented a 1 hour webinar on Saving Legacy Forests in Washington state
Reflection/Evaluation
This was an excellent presentation and included the viewpoint from the Indigenous woman, Zephyr Elise. The challenge in this campaign is how to compensate the schools and other services in order to save legacy forests. The big problem is that Washington timber sales provide revenue to Washington State Schools, fire services, and other services which are completely necessary. This issue is also tied up in litigation as to whether or not public services should be tied to timber sales. The value of forests lies in their ability to sequester carbon as well as their value for timber revenue and jobs. This lawsuit is expected to have a final judgement as early as tomorrow (3/31/22). This could provide us with greater support for our advocacy.
I also posted the petition and the link to the website on our google groups. I need to provide more education to our members about this and plan to offer an advocacy night in order to do so.
