Short Description of Activity
We read and discussed the book, Rosalie Edge: Hawk of Mercy. Rosalie was an early female environmentalist who was instrumental in the creation of the Olympic National Park as well as the preservation of hawks and other birds of prey.
Reflection/Evaluation
Reading this book and an earlier book about Hazel Wolf has inspired our group to want to read more books about female environmentalists. For future reading, we are considering reading either On a Farther Shore about Rachel Carson or Aldo Leopold’s Shack, which features Estella Leopold. Polly Dyer Broadband member, Raelene Gold, knows Estella who lives here in Seattle, and Raelene volunteered to try to get Estella to talk with us via Zoom for a future Book Club meeting.
