Solitude monitoring/Recreation Site Monitoring Training at Zigzag Ranger Station
Reflection/Evaluation
It was an excellent training! We listened and viewed a slide show presentation about the Salmon Huckleberry wilderness and located the boundaries on a map. We went over the protocol for solitude monitoring which was provided in a written form as well. The great part was learning to monitor campsites for visitor use by noting damage to fire rings, trees, and vegetation. We learned to use the Avenza app to track ourselves along the trails and drop a pin onto the site being monitored. Nathaniel did an excellent job in preparation as all of the procedures were provided in written form as well. The snacks were also a big hit! Laurie created a google sheet for the schedule for monitoring. She will put that out once we have been funded. We are anxiously waiting to hear if we have been funded before we proceed. That is our next step. We also went out and examined several campsites to practice our new skills. The weather was great and we joined the seasonal crew of the FS at a picnic table over lunch. The objective was met and we enjoyed being with our partners.
