Short Description of Activity
Composed and sent (via email) letters to various key Gila National Forest staff and regional office staff regarding the issue of “feral” cattle impacting the main stem of the Gila River area in the wilderness district. Letter indicated the need for multi-year action and budget requests in order to remove all of the feral cattle. Upper Gila Watershed Alliance provided some talking points and suggested recipients for this much needed letter of support.
Reflection/Evaluation
Went well. We received a letter from the acting forest supervisor indicating thanks from GNF and the southwest regional office for our letter of support for removal of the unauthorized cattle in those key southwestern ecosystems. Also – “We as a region are committed to continuing the effort to ensure full removal of the unauthorized cows. We thank you for being a partner of the forest.”
