Short Description of Activity

I listened to a number of the presentations in the NY Times Climate Forward Conference. First a presentation by Al Gore, then one on the Connection Between Inequality and Climate Change, and one on the Global Food Crisis, Not sure of last one’s name

Reflection/Evaluation

Perhaps too pessimistic at times but heavy on the truth and the future. Al Gore talked about how there were 12 1/1,000 year downpours in the just the last 5 years in the US. Also that we are fast approaching the negative tipping point re melting of the arctic tundra, releasing methane. He spoke of the Sustainability Revolution meaning renewable generation is cheaper, electric cars are universal and green hydrogen is accepted, but that the political will is missing. New law has a methane tax but big business is trying to repay it. The Climate Change Inequality session was excellent, stressing that 10% of the highest emitters are responsible for over 50% of GHG. How do developing nations get ahead without increasing their carbon footprint? The Global Food Crisis explained that we produce 1.5 times the food we need but much of it is wasted. Need shorter supply chains. Agricultural yield decreases 25% for each degree of temperature increase. 30% of GHG come from food supply. I learned plenty but have such little over to put things in motion!
