Short Description of Activity
Bucky Dennerlein and I gathered with other western Boardband leaders and the grassroots team from Durango for leadership training( the fundamentals: grassroots organizing, environmental justice, wilderness advocacy and stewardship, and much more. We played training games, sang songs, laughed and learned about each other and the Great Old Broads for Wilderness, past and present.
Reflection/Evaluation
WALTS was an experience like no other. Star-filled nights, sun-filled days, the best in food, wonderful coffee, hand-made quilts on the beds, original paintings of desert creatures in a hacienda with history. The team of trainers, so knowledgeable, so enthusiastic about the work of the Broads, managed to share the activities so that they seemed fresh and alive. Role playing, particularly on relational meetings, was a confidence builder–I was surprised at how many of us identify as “introverts”. The stories we told each other about how we got to this point of taking leadership for the earth were emotional and endearing. For all our differences, we are very alike in our love for Earth and all beings.
Desert morning was perfect for the Jupiter-Venus-waning crrescent Moon conjunction.
